Topic tags/keywords: honduras honduran mahogany cardwell missouri greener lumber resource question

Who lives near Jefferson City, Missouri, and is willing to go to Cardwell Lumber for me? Greener Lumber Ltd. has just removed their first load of 200-year-old Honduran mahogany from the kiln, and Cardwell is marketing it for them. Before I drop $25-$45 per board foot on some lumber, I’d like someone to have set their eyes on it. Here is the link to Greener Lumber’s site where they explain the process they’ve gone through to reclaim this wood:

Gee, what more could a girl ask? I’ve heard from the guy at Greener Lumber, and he is jazzed about what is coming out of the kiln day after tomorrow. He’s promised premium wood for that premium price. I’m getting ready to put some of my hardwood lumber on Craig’s List so I’ll have the cash to invest. He said he has several full-width planks of 200-year-old fiddleback mahogany, 40-60 growth rings per inch, with “incredible figure.” I’m having heart palpitations.

Hmmm…First, I intend to enjoy it as eye candy for about six months, waiting for it to acclimate to the dry climate here. Then I’m going to do the Adrien Monk thing and walk around it a few times with my hands held up like a picture frame. If the figure is fantastic, I’m going to cut some into veneer so I can use it more than once. Eventually, it will all end up as gallery quality boxes. Who knows; I might even take on a commissioned piece.

Autumn I have personally seen and held this wood in my hand, it is EVERYTHING that greenerlumber says it is. I live in Columbia, MO just miles from Jefferson City, and I am a personal friend of the owner of greenerlumber.com. As a matter of a fact I’m working with greenerlumber.com on the website both in display and ecommerce for this lumber (keep tuned to www.greenerlumber.com very soon for some cool updates and pics).

One of the things that I and greenerlumber folks are wanting to do is some how display the true beauty of this wood and it’s history (that may be hard to do). I have to say it is beautiful, but the thought of history of over 200 years in your hand, makes me stop and wander who touch these trees in history.

Not sure if this helps to ease your curiousity but the only true way to believe is to see and hold onto such great pieces of history.

Regards
