I am planning on making my wife a jewelry box for Christmas. I was planning on making a “cabinet like” box that stands with 2 doors that open. I’m thinking of making flat paneled doors and using 1/4” purlple heart for the panels. I haven’t decided what to use for the primary wood because my wife doesn’t like light colored woods(yea she is nuts I know). I have never used PH but I think using a light wood like maple and staining it dark would defeat the purpose cause I would also have to stain the PH. Any suggestions for a contrasting wood(that isn’t light) or should I scrap my idea of using PH all together.
Thanks-Vince

Use Padouk, it is a dark orange and looks great with PH.

Bloodwood works very well and is bright red. I agree with papadan about Padauk, however, it will darken over time and loose the reddish orange color.

Zebra wood works too. for a little busier look or use all four.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Unfortunately the wood store I use was out of 1/4” purple heart and not having a planer that idea was out the window quickly so i grabbed some walnut and 1/4” birds eye maple, she will just have to live with the maple because I personally think that is some of the neatest wood.
Thanks again I guess I will just have to wait to use purple heart.
