Topic tags/keywords: bosch random orbital sander replacement pad

My 5” Bosch random orbital sander (ROS20VS) came with a “soft” hook and loop backing pad. I kind of shredded it quickly, too much pressure I guess, and need to replace it.

Toolbarn.com carries hard, soft, and extra soft replacement pads. I haven’t been able to find any guidance on when to use each type and what the best choice would be for a replacement. Does it come down to softer pad for finer finishing? Should I get both a hard and soft pads and change them?

I am not sure if I am right or not but my best guess would be that a softer pad would give a better finish, as to what pad you should get all depends on what you are doing with it, I would get the soft again because it seems to be the middle of the road option but this time try applying less pressure, you don’t need much to achieve a nice finish, you just need to be patient and let the sander do the work.

Give Supergrit a call. They also sell pads and they might be able to tell you the purpose of the different softness.
