I’m in the market for a second ROS so I don’t have to switch paper quite as often. The only issue is I have about 300 5 hole H&L discs, most of the new ROS all come setup for 8 hole discs. I’ve been using a PC 333 for the last 10 years or so and I’ve replaced the pad on it about twice, well last night the little belt broke and it proceeded to spin about 500K RPM. The pad exploded all over the workshop, so it needs a new belt and pad.

So my question is, can a 5 hole pad be purchased for any of the new ROS like the Porter Cable? Brand doesn’t really matter to me long as it’s not a piece of junk and no I can’t afford Festool.

Have ya checked with Porter Cable?
I can’t imagine that a sander in use for soooo long wouldn’t be supported by PC.

My ROS (a 5” Ridgid) has holes compatible with both 5 and 8 hole discs. I had always assumed that was the case for every hook-and-loop ROS.

Most of my discs are 5 hole.

I can get the parts to repair my Porter Cable and I plan to. I’m just looking to get a 2nd sander without having to buy more paper.

My PC 8 hole will accept 5 hole paper also.

I was just at Home Depot, and this thread popped into my head as I walked through the tool section. I looked at a Dewalt, Ridgid, Makita, and Ryobi 5” sander, and they all had the same 5/8 hole pattern that my slightly older Ridgid has. Any 5 hole disc will fit them.

HD (and I think Lowes also) sells replacement pads. Just check to see if yours has 3 screws holding it on or 4 screws. They’re not very expensive either.

Thanks for the info Jonah. As for my Porter Cable I just ordered 2 new belts for $5 off Ebay, and I’ll pick up a new pad sometime this week.
