Martin:
I’ve been getting emails when someone puts a comment on my project, and I have been getting emails when someone posts a response to my Forum questions. BUT, when I comment on someone’s project, and they comment back to me with an answer to my question, I don’t know about it, unless I happen to go back to their project, look at the comments, and see if they have responded to my comment. Is there a way you could notify us by email when a comment is made to our comment? I know it seems trivial, but it would be nice. You’re the man,

Hey Mark,

good point. However the solution is not very trivial. This exact problem is on my LumberJocks to-do list and will be definitelly solved in the future. Basically there are few alternative ways to make this work. Simple email notification can result in huge amount of emails if you’ll be actively participating in more discussions.

I’m also thinking about some kind of conversation tracker that would be accessible through Your Account pages. This tool would allow you to see which discussions (projects or topics) have been active since your last participation in them.

I’m always trying to keep things simple. I believe that current email notifications system is great start and once I deal with the higher priority issues I will focus on this problem.

If you have any ideas how this Comments to Comments tracking should work, just share. This site is for you ;)

Any progress on this that I haven’t found yet?

How about an agent that runs once a day (or week at user digression) to pull comment to comment notification, then you are only sending this email on a daily or weekly basis.

Or use a home page notification when you log in (either an agent or store the data when you post) ” you have x number of comments <click>

Martin, I’m new around here but I definitely have already seen the need for this feature. I think a watchlist would be an excellent idea. I look forward to it. Thanks for all your hard work on making this an A+++ site !!

It would be nice if there was a single RSS feed that you could subscribe to which you could customize at will. So I could choose to have it include projects/blogs/comments on my topics/comments on topics I’m watching.

we tried the chat before and there were a lot of drawbacks to it. Primarily, that conversations were lost to the rest of the lumberjocks who were not online at the time.

Or at least the ability to add a Yahoo, AIM, etc. chat handle to our profiles.

Yea, I was thinking along the lines of IM type chat so that you don’t lose track of what you are saying (which happens to me while emailing…LOL)
