I just picked up this old Delta band saw off cl. It doesn’t have the belt guard and only has 1/4 hp motor. Wondering the best place/way to get the belt guard and a beefier motor for it.

Thanks!
Matt

They turn up in the BOYD section over at the owwm site every now and then… both the cast iron and stamped steel ones, and you can put a WTB ad there as well. Another alternative is to make your own. Here is a nice example (for a different saw) that was made out of MDF:

One other option would be to just use it as is without the cover. Those belt covers were an optional accessory, and many machines shipped from the factory without one.

Cheers,
Brad

PS: Before you go replacing the motor, you might want to give that one a try first to see how it works. That appears to be a stock Delta motor, which is a bonus.

Yeah. I hate to replace the motor. I see a lot of people wanting to upgrade from a 3/4 to 1hp or 1-1/2 hp. So hoping I can get an original 3/4hp from one of those guys.

I figured my first band saw project might be making a belt cover. After seeing the one in your picture, I’m certain it will be my first project. Did you make that, MrUnix? Very cool.

Not mine. I snagged that photo from the “shopmade machine bases: the cream of the crop” thread over at owwm. Take a look at that thread for some very impressive faux machine bases that people have come up with, mostly out of MDF.

Cheers,
Brad

PS: That belt guard is on the last page (5) of the above mentioned thread…
