Topic tags/keywords: sealer on brass corners question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about sealing over brass corners? I’m installing a set of 4 brass corners on a set of drawers I made. I’m applying a minwax polycrylic water based clearcoat finish. Can I apply this over the brass corners? Or will it just flake off. I’ve seen on other pieces of furniture that has these brass corners they seem to brown and loose the shinyness.

Thanks!

When I used to repair furniture for a furniture store, we used clear gloss spray lacquer for this application. Spray lacquer covers a multitude of sins. :)

I would finish the wood, seal the metal parts with the spray lacquer, and finally apply them to the piece after everything is dry. You can add a little more spray lacquer at the end if you want to seal over scratches from the nailing process.

The brass parts most likely come with a coat of lacquer (or something similar) already.
