I came across this craigslist posting that is about 1 hr drive from me. I wonder if it is worth the effort to go get it. It is still available, and the guy is getting rid of his woodshop, and says that it is in good working order. He wants $140, is this a fair price?

Here is a picture of it:

I could not find reviews here on LJ about this jointer so I am seeking advice of people that might have one.

I should probably mention that I have liimited space and $$ at the moment so I am not in the market for one of the really big jointers. The type of woodworking I do, rarely has boards longer than 3ft or 6” wide, so capacity wise I think I’d be fine with this for some years to come.

Thanks in advance!

Yes I saw that and reviews are all over the place, that’s why I wanted to ask here if anyone had actual experience with it.

Yeah, the joys of Amazon reviews!

Good luck with whatever you end up buying—

140$ is a bit high for me. But if it suits your needs then go for it.

Yes I was thinking that too. And it’s been on CL for over a month, so indicates to me that he is asking too much. And given that it is a 2 hr round trip to get it, I will probably offer around $100-120, which is about half the new price.

If it’s been on for that long just give him an offer of 100-110 and see what happens.

Tiny jointers like that aren’t good for much except really short boards. Maybe okay, if that’s all you’ll need. But I think his price is too high. True, it has cast iron tables (good), but a universal motor (not so good).

This opinion is worth every penny you paid for it.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just sent him an email offering a hundred bucks also given that it has no stand. We’ll see if he’ll go for it. I do not hold out much hope but then, I’m not in a big hurry. Other opportunities will present themselves I am sure.

He declined my offer. Oh well, I’ll just keep looking.

140 is not the greatest, but if it fits all you requirement don’t let a couple 20s hold you back. IF you are getting a benchtop used then you prob won’t find a better deal. Most other benchtops are crap.
