Question from a new Lumberjocks member.
I’ve gone through several Random orbit sanders over the years, and my latest Bosch was just stolen out of my garage. I’m a hobbyist – build various kinds of furniture and cabinetry.
I have the $35 (!!) Bosch vacuum hose, which is great, and I was happy with the sander and my other Bosch tools, so I’ll probably stay with that brand.
So…Bosch sells a 5” ROS for (ballpark) $70, $150, $220, and $250 (and the 3 higher-priced ones can be had as 6” models as well).
They differ in amperage, dust canister type, vibration control, and the high-end one has “dual-action” where you can supposedly go to “turbo” mode, with 5x more aggressive stock removal.
I have a good stock of 5” discs that I don’t want to pitch, but I’ve been told that, since 6” discs have 40% more surface area, the discs last much longer as well as handling larger tasks. Can anyone comment about the step up in performance at the difference price points (as well as 6” vs 5”)?
I haven’t found this info in my searches, so I appreciate any advice.
