hey this is my first post on here. i have been trolling around for a while and i thought i would share this to see if i got a good deal on this or not. i bought the lumber that is in the pictures today for 450 bucks. it is mainly oak there is also some poplar mixed in. the wider boards in the one picture is all poplar. not sure how many boards there are. they are mainly 3/4in thick. i was thinking about building some cupboards for our kitchen with it. Once again i was wondering if this was a good deal and if it was ill make it a brag too. lol

What are you kidding, Seriously? If you got all the lumber in all those photos for 450, damn right it’s a good deal.
So here’s your first, You Suck! Honestly where I live I’d kill for a deal like that. You done good in my book, real good.

I get lucky sometimes and can pick up oak and poplar for $1 a foot. I think you paid 10-15 cents a foot. You definitely scored.

If you have the ask, I’d say you don’t know much about wood prices.

Figure out the board footage for each kind of wood and you’ll see just how cheap you got the lumber.

It also depends on the quality of wood. Looks pretty clear.

A ‘great’ deal on poplar might be 75 cents to $1/bf and white oak $2-3/bf.

When you figure out the actuality, how about warning us so we can have our bibs on ;-)

I’m guessing you could sell 1/4 of it and get most of your money back.

Great find!

I guess I’ll be the dissenting opinion. Around here, I cant sell anythung made of oak, people jut not want it right now. You’d have to pay me to haul that away. Now if you plan in making kitchen cabinets with it and wanted oak, great score!

alaska guy im not to good with lumber prices. i dont normally use hard wood becuase of the price and its just a hobby. Marcus i think oak still sells good around here. i live in ohio close to amish country and they seem to sell an awful lot of oak furniture too. I found this at a place that is pretty desperate to get rid of all the lumber they arent using before their inventory comes in august. oh yeah and did i mention that i got free delivery with all of this too? They have a whole bunk of cherry they are trying to sell too so im thinking about trying to figure out a deal on that if i can swing it. thanks for the opinions and answering my question.

Make the kitchen cabinets out of cherry. Sell the oak to the Amish.

Hey Gar, if my calculations are correct, in the top picture of the longer wood on the very top, there is a minimum of 112 bdft. The bunk below should be well over 1000 bdft…... Just those 2 batches of wood is under .40 per foot. If you got all that wood pictured for the price you quoted, I think they gave it to you and recovered their delivery cost by stealthily charging you what they did. Nuttin wrong with that. Hope you have storage for it…....... Jerry (in Tucson) .

There is a total of 4 bunks. I got them for 100 a piece. The wood is already planed on both sides too. I thought it was a good deal I just wanted it verified. The storage might be an issue in trying to line that up. I have a couple weeks to get it out.

Gar, I don’t know your woodworking experience level, but if you wanted verification of the deal you got, it shows me you haven’t been woodworking very long. If that’s the case, you really do suck to stumble onto that deal.

That’s out of the way now, so, when you finally do get around to purchasing wood at regular pricing, make sure you have soft spot to land on when you pass out from the shock of the future price. heheeh.

I know even though I’m retired from woodworking and don’t have storage for that amount of wood, for that price I would have jumped on it without a second thought. Enjoy your wood. Make some stuff.. ........ Jerry (in Tucson)

Yeah that’s awesome. You’ve got a lot of projects ahead you now. What else do you want to make aside from the cabinets? So what type of establishment actually sold it to you? I’m sitting here trying to think of the obvious answer but I can’t fathom who would part with this load for what you paid.

Ps. If I see a new thread asking “how the hell do I store a $h1T load of lumber” I’ll know exactly who’s asking.
