As the title states, I am getting ready to refinish a 1996 stained and lacquered soft maple or poplar and birch ply built-in with Kem Aqua Plus white mid gloss.

My proposed finishing schedule I have also used successfully on new wood-

1. Pre-sand with 150.
2. 2 coats of BIN with 400 grit sanding in between each coat.
3. 2 coats of Kem Aqua Plus white medium gloss

Thoughts? Is the Kem Aqua Plus Surfacer necessary as a primer? Does anyone have any thoughts on KA Surfacer vs. BIN? The KA Surfacer is about 15 bucks more per gallon than the bin.
