Topic tags/keywords: sander question

I’m looking for a source for 1/4 sheet non-adhesive paper with holes that will fit a a Bosch 1297DK sander. I want to buy the paper in larger packs that 5.

Any ideas?

By the way…This is a great sander! I would highly recommend it. The paper change out is probably the easiest of the 1/4 sheet sanders.

A neat jig was posted on LJ that you can use to quickly cut full sheets into 1/4 sheets.

If you go that way you can buy any sandpaper you want in almost any quantity you want

If you don’t go the jig route as Don suggests, look into rolls.

On my pad sanders, I use rolls as wide as one dimension of the pad. Once the paper is in place, I use a plate to punch the holes. My favorite brand is Mirka, which is available in long rolls.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping for 1/4 sheets pre-punched for dust collection. I can’t even find a source for Bosch 1/4 sheets that have pre-punched holes. I’ve tried punching the holes myself with the included punch press but have not been pleased with the results.

Using the included press, try making a punch that punches holes while the paper is mounted on the tool.

My Porter Cable 340 finish sander included such a device and it works better than I expected. The holes get punched into the sander, in the direction of the suction. A similar device could be easily made with a small plywood scrap, some chamfered dowels, and two blocks to align a corner.

My Riged sander has a punch that puts holes in the paper. You can also buy a hollow punch. I think it might be called a gasket punch set. I’ve gotten them at Harbor Freight.

If you had a wooden jig with holes that you could place the punch in the right place. You could punch a stack at the same time.
