Production on a CD would be lfar ess costly and easier to distribute… and would save trees for more lumberjocking. Certainly the nominees for all the contests should be in there. Then you can throw on several of the multimedia elements that have appeared. |

great idea Dan…I would think a published book could be something that would make this an even moe uniqique place…assuming as the site owner this would need to go through Martin (which from my perspective is a good thing)...this has become a respected site for all its talent (not counting me!) and this could become a truly marketable book if done well… your design expertise could make it a really nice book…and if it takes off it could be an annual addition…all the best designs and projects from the previous years…with plans and details on how to make them??? cool… -- Matt, Napa, CA...fun is beautiful...just trying to have some fun... |

I’m thinking there are several options on a printing… CD idea fits in nicely as well. Everything will be digital anyway. -- work from your heart and your spirit will live forever |

It would be great if we could vote on items we want to include….maybe a set of plans or sketchups for each one selected….a few pics of the results…and maybe a quick write up by the builder as to difficult parts and shortcuts. We could also add some of the great tips we see in here alot…..we could do voting by blog…and select items by subject…we could also ask for submissions from each subject and vote on those….would be a nice summary of the great stuff on this site… Oh…and would be nice to have some of those great items we have favorited the most….every once in a while I senior moment and can’t find what I saw a while back and wanted to refer too… Anyway…a few pennies from me there… -- Woodworking.....My small slice of heaven! |

You know, yesterday, I decided I was going to start a blog series of hints and tips, not that I have a lot since I am a newby to hobby wordworking. But I think we all stumble across neat and new ways of doing things. Don’t think that category of stuff would be something that would go on your CD, but maybe I am wrong. This is an excellent idea… Maybe someone should come up with a template for the book to start… as far as the different areas of the book you could encompass all areas whether it’s turning, carving, furniture, jigs, etc… IMHO the work that goes into this is the woodworkers who use this site as a networking tool… I wouldn’t think Martin would have to ok this unless of course we use the Lumberjocks.com name, but I am sure he wouldn’t have a problem with it considering it is advertising his site. I do a bit of graphic design etc… so I would like to come up with a few design ideas for the layout/template and cover for consideration. Maybe we could start a competition/vote. First things first though, we should come up with a lead for the project. Someone to coordinate everything amongst everyone who wants to be involved. -- San Diego, CA US Navy |

I think thats a good idea to put somebody in front of the steering wheel..but who? Kindlingmaker had the same idea about a year ago but it never went anywhere…Dan has just re planted the seed…who would be interested in heading up this project?.....Not me…I just wanna draw :) -- David, South Windsor, CT "I love the smell of sawdust in the morning" |

Well looking at kindlingmakers last tread i think Martin’s well up for it just seems no one had the knowledge to start it of as for printing a book Why not make it a E-book that we pay for then print ourselfs it would save on shipping costs for many lumberjocks -- cut it saw it scrap it |

i think it would be important to decide on the purpose of the book—-or maybe the right word is what is the “audience”??? If the audience is just jocks…and its an “in-house” thing then that would direct the project one way… If the goal is to a wider audience…then quality, cost and format become a different issue…COuld an “LJ Annual of Design and Building” become something that gets produced and sold in every Woodcraft—-that is a totally differnent thing… This goal will direct the cost, production etc… -- Matt, Napa, CA...fun is beautiful...just trying to have some fun... |

I think the best way to do this would be to decide on a specific format then put it all together as a big file online. I’m thinking we could start with table of contents and develop chapters based on niche …. chairs, tables, cabinets, boxes, turning, toys, pens, pendents, beds, boats, cutting boards … ...projects. Do it based on getting dibs on page numbers, ... figure 200 pages, 2 photo per page minimum, each person does their own page layout and we marry them in pdf. ... ok I want page 175. Common rules apply … pages must be numbered , nothing too frisky -- work from your heart and your spirit will live forever |
