I won a 1985 shopsmith on ebay. Total weight is 250. The shopsmith is in michigan at my parents, I need to get it to montana where I’m at. My question is is how much does the motor weigh? It all has to come apart and if that is less than 100 pounds, I can have it shipped here via greyhound for about $200

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Their is a forum out there that has a thing called ride share where you may be able to find a ride for your tool. I’ll be d**d I can remember which one it was. Maybe someone here can remember.

It’s uship.com, I’m on there, but it’s looking like that’s going to cost me $250.

No, sorry. It is another woodworking site that has a ride service for tools. There sometimes people going to shows and what not and they will pick up a tool for you and the fee is nominal. I just can’t remember the woodworking link. All you do is post the question for the ride. You will get a PM and there the details get worked out.

Your question was—how much does the motor weigh? About 25 lbs. The entire head stock weighs about 50 lbs. Head stock is not that hard to remove from way tubes. You just have to find the hidden set screws. Good luck. I have enjoyed my shopsmith for many years. KB1

Thanks for all the input. I was informed that it is well over 50 but under 100 so I will be able to have it shipped here via greyhound.

Bill, I will get a more accurate weight when it arrives.

Eh. Just drive out to your folks place, pick it up and drive back.

1300 miles one way, 1300 miles back, that’s $500 worth of gas at 20mpg along with 2 hotel stays and 3-4 days of my life. Greyhound will work just fine at $250 to ship 3 packages.

Have your say...
