Topic tags/keywords: rockwell jointer guard spring spring supplier

I just picked up a Rockwell jointer Model 6 (P/N 37-608) and it’s missing the return spring for the blade guard. It’s a torsion spring and I can’t seem to locate a source for this. The Rockwell P/N for the spring is 418-09-122-0001. Any ideas on where I might find one? Thanks.

If all you are missing is the spring, consider yourself lucky, as usually it’s the whole guard assembly that is missing! Check your local hardware store… My local Ace has a pretty good selection of springs and you can usually find one that is close enough to make work with a little creativity. Alternatively, they are pretty easy to make yourself (~19ga stainless steel wire should be sufficient).

PS: Stainless MiG welding wire works pretty good as well.

Mr. Unix, thanks for the comment. I tried to wind my own spring from music wire and it worked perfectly!
