Hi there,

Just signed up per Brant’s invite. His rings intrigued me. I think I’ll be making some of my own. On that note, Brant, I did a little research on the subject and built this ring-size reference. Thought you and some others might find this helpful:

Ring , Fract. , Error
4.0 , 37/64 , 0.00113
4.5 , 19/32 , -0.00325
5.0 , 39/64 , -0.00762
5.5 , 41/64 , 0.00362
6.0 , 21/32 , -0.00075
6.5 , 43/64 , -0.00413
7.0 , 45/64 , 0.00713
7.5 , 23/32 , 0.00275
8.0 , 47/64 , -0.00162
8.5 , 3/4 , -0.00600
9.0 , 25/32 , 0.00525
9.5 , 51/64 , 0.00087
10.0 , 13/16 , -0.00350
10.5 , 53/64 , -0.00787
11.0 , 55/64 , 0.00438
11.5 , 7/8 , 0.00000
12.0 , 57/64 , -0.00438
12.5 , 59/64 , 0.00687
13.0 , 15/16 , 0.00250

Luckily for me, my wife is size 8.5. :) Everyone has a 3/4” forstner bit.

For the rest of you-uns, here’s a little background. I’ve been around carpentry and woodworking my whole life. I teach a few classes at WoodCraft in Springfield va. I have interests in hang gliding, electronics, woodworking, cnc, programming, and smaller turnings. I hate sanding and using elbow grease (ie. extensive use of hand-tools). I build mostly boxes, pens, and smaller nick knacks. I also enjoy building my own tools, from mallets and other hand tools to one of my current projects, a horizontal mortiser. I also have a drum sander and cnc router in the works. I wish I had more time to just finish some of them.
