Several months back I got a band saw in the mail from my nephew. A small ryobi model. It arrived broken, base cracked and when inspected further, the bands had cracked and were falling off in pieces. I abandoned the idea of a rebuild.

Later I found a nice one on craigs list. Turns out he wanted too much and would not give an inch on the price. After further research, although like new, parts were no longer available for it. Gave up on that idea. A two hour each way drive didn’t sound good either.

I began saving what I could from projects sales and mowing grass for a band saw. I decided that I did not need a full size one with what I do so maybe a mid size.

This morning my Son woke up and said “happy fathers day Dad, I’m going to buy you a band saw today”. Wow! He let me choose so after review and comparison, we took advantage of the Sears fathers day sale and bought the craftsman 10 inch.

Can’t wait to get it going and open up a new level of wood working, but for now I feel I am the luckiest Dad going.

Just had to share.

Jeff, you have a great son buying a gift you will truly treasure. I bet you were playing with it all day. Happy band sawing.

What a great surprise on Father’s Day. I own that saw and am very happy with it. It’s more capable than I expected.

Nice. That’s a capable saw for a midget.

Congrats Jeff. What a cool surprise. Isn’t it nice when our kids are old enough to give cool gifts. lol

A question to you and Joe. I have that saw and it’s great. My problem is that I can’t get a larger size blade to stay on the wheels and track properly. It does ok with an 1/8” or 1/4”, but a 1/2” runs off the wheels to the front of the machine. I’ve spent time with all the adjustments and no luck. My next thing will be to check for coplanar alignment. Last time I checked, it was OK. If that’s still OK, I’ll have to see if Sears has replacement tires for it. If you guys have any tips, I’d love to hear them.
TIA

Thanks for the comments guys. I am really happy to get such a gift and finally have a band saw, and I think a good one. As of yet I still haven’t put it together but hope to do so after these 12 hour shifts are done. I can’t help you Vicki because of that but I will keep my eye on that.

Is this the saw?
I have the same saw in Rikon green paint.
Very nice little saw. I really like mine.
I get my blades from Highland Woodworking Supply in Georgia. Here’s a link.

Hi Vicki,

Unfortunately, I’m not much help with your issue. I currently have a 1/2” blade on the saw with no issues. I’ve used TimberWolf blades with the saw since I first got it. I’ve had great luck with them.

Thanks guys! I do buy the timberwolf blades. Those guys are great. They sent me one blade that just wouldn’t fit. I contacted them and they sent a free replacement. Just can’t get that 1/2” to work and it’s a bummer as I’m doing some woodturning now and need to cut thicker material.

Congratulations on the new saw, Jeff! I hope you’ve had time to assemble and play with it by now.
