Topic tags/keywords: burl maple woodturning

I picked up this burl today, weighs almost 75 lbs, over 2’ wide and almost 5” thick. maple burl, hard to see the figure since it’s dry but it has beautiful figure. i’m wondering how much it’s worth?

I would pay $15 to $30 for it if I had figured out what to do with it and how.

CD

They go by the pound anywhere from $5 to $10 per pound and also depending on the type of wood. Then something flat cut like that would go from $1.50 to $2.50 per pound.

Most people want as much of the head of the burl as possible instead of flat cut like that, however, it can be split (Which I would do) or make a big bowl, platter, or clock (I would really try to cut it in half or two pieces of 2” and have one for a clock and the other for a platter) out of it to show the most of the figure I could.

It is nice seeing a picture of you. :)
