Topic tags/keywords: bandsaw band saw link belt serpentine

I replaced the v-belt on my lathe with a link belt and noticed a significant decrease in vibration.
Wanted to do the same on my band saw, but noticed it has a serpentine belt. Doesn’t look like the link belt will stay on. If a link belt doesn’t work, any recommendations on a high quality serpentine belt.

Short awswer NO. You would ned to change pulleys. I would not change a serpentine belt for anther style belt. Serpentine belts transfer power more efficiently. Do not take a set like a v-belt (not as likely to take a set). If you have vibration problems start eliminateing possibilities. Take blade off and run it. If you still have vibration take belt off and run it. If the vibration goes away you will have isolated the vibration to the lower wheel or belt or pulley.

I agree with Bruce, such a switch would not be useful. But for quality, I’ve always found Goodyear and Gates belt to be top notch (still don’t think that’s the problem).

Thanks for the feedback. Will look into the gates and goodyear belts. A friend recently had a belt break and didn’t have a backup. So I wanted to stock one just in case. Thought of using a link belt since I had some left over. But they can’t be used without upgrading the pulleys.
