All

I have been asked to give a quote to build a rocking chair from just a picture. Unfortunately the original one was lost in a fire. I have made other large pieces of furniture but never any chairs or rocking chairs. This particular one looks kind of basic except that every piece is curved. Any advice on where to start, how to figure the amount of wood, how to make the curved pieces (bend or cut), etc would be greatly appreciated. I think I am up for the challange I just need some advice and help on the techniques used to create these peices. Thanks

LumberJocks user bkap is Bill Kappel, custom rocking chair builder, and he’s offered free step by step plans on how to build a rocking chair, including notes on balance and all that other stuff.

I highly recommend that you contact him and ask him for his plans.
