Greetings Everyone,
First time posting in here and was looking for some advise from those of you who might own or have experience with these two table saws.

I’ve been looking to purchase a table saw for projects for a while and came across an older Jet JWTS-10JF (1 1/2 HP, cast iron top, 30” extension table with built in router mount, premium Xacta fence) on Craigslist for $450 with a few extra goodies included. The owner says he bought the saw about 15 years ago. The saw looks to be in good shape, but it would be a 2 hour drive to go get the saw. Attached are a few photos of the saw.

I also saw a newer Jet JWTS-10 with a add on Xacta Fence for $975. Does this model have the stamped steel wings that I keep reading are not the best?

Thoughts?

- Rev

Looks to me like the first Jet pictured is your best bet. Worth the two hour drive, IMO.
If you decide on that one, ask the owner what he uses for a router fence.

The second is so overpriced (IMHO) it’s not worth considering. I see the first one as being overpriced as well, but not nearly as much….to me it’s a $300 +/- saw. It does look like he has some extras to go with it that may make it more of a turnkey saw.

The 2nd one’s seller is way out on the price. The 1st one is probably a nice saw, tad aggressive on the price though.

I’d go with the first. Much better value. I’d pay 450$ if I absolutely had to. I’d be happy with 400$ and very happy at 350$.

I’ll second that motion.

Definitely the first saw. It has more to offer than the saw with over twice the price. The position of the router is a bit odd to use the saw fence in any way unless you turn the wing around.
The other saw does have a stamped wing, but that’s not so bad. I have no problem with mine.

First saw looks good. I’d also pay $450 if I had to. Woodworking is about woodworking, not getting incredible deals on craigslist. That’s a good saw with a lot of good extras. Go for it. Try to talk him down, if it doesn’t work but it anyway.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

Thanks guys. It looks likes both saws have dropped in price. The bad thing is I go on vacation for a few weeks and might miss out on both of these saws. The first one dropped to $400 and the second dropped to $875. Does the second unit appear to have any benefits over the older Jet?

The newer saw is overpriced by close to 100% IMO….$975 has got to be close to retail when it was new, if not more, which could be as long as 10-12 years ago. The first one is the only viable option IMO, unless the seller of saw two will take closer to $500 for it. Both are nice saws with good fences and somewhat outdated features. I see no reason to pay a $400 premium for one of them (the “Gold Edition” sticker adds very little value, and yes, it a steel wing).

To me it appears the opposite. The first, cheaper one has one cast wing and the router wing. The second one has the stamped wing and a melamine wing. Actually I think the first one also has an exacta fence.
