I operate a small HVaC business, i have been trying to come up with a great service plan,

So per year, i will offer 2 preventative maintenance services, as well as 2 free repairs. The person would just be responsible for the parts. It will just cost $40/month. The only thing i wont cover is the compressor, or installing of a new system. I am also thinking there might just be a service fee for having to open up the refrigeration system, to recover and evacuate the system for any repairs where that would be required, like the compressor.

Thanks for any and all input.

My neighbor offers a similar service in his hvac business. Careful with the word “free”, it can easily be misunderstood. I would just say it includes 2 preventative maintenance services and 2 minor repairs. I don’t know the going rate for such things but $40/mo sounds high, I would never subscribe. That’s $480/yr, close to the cost of a new system.

I would never subscribe, it is too expensive. With all due respect, I have an inherent distrust of all HVAC businesses in this area except one. All of the others I have used always want to sell me something such as a new air handler. The one small company I used for a second opinion told me I was being scammed. I have used them for over 5 years and they do what is needed at the going rate.

I built a home in 1976 that had two split systems, each 3 tons, heat pumps.
Lived there for 37 years. replaced both systems in 1995, with heat pumps with gas auxillary heat.
Sold that place in 2013.
Never had service calls for check ups or anything. Replaced my own filters.
Just had to have the systems worked on for minor repair about once every 5 or 6 years.
Repairs were usually for things like cleaning the burners on the aux heat; one air flow switch.
Never paid more than $100 for one of those calls.
Now, why would I want to pay $40 per month for something that isn’t broken?
In the 37 years I lived there $40/month would have added up to $17,760.
Sorry, but no thank you.

I have a two year old system and pay about $150 a year for preventative maintenance. This keeps the high efficiency systems working.

I compared pricing from several companies when I had a new system put in a couple of years ago and the price for my system was many times more than $480. Maybe living in the upper midwest requires a larger heating and air conditioning system than other areas.

Per year over the expected lifetime of the sytem? Over 20 years that would be $9600 just for a preventative maintenance plan.

Ha, ha. People will hesitate to spend a few bucks on their HVAC systems, a crucial piece of their house mechanical systems, but will rush to buy extended warranties for TV’s washers, dryers, toasters, etc, etc., you name it, go figure.

I pay approx. 400.00 a year for my home warranty which covers the HVAC along with everything else. When there is a problem I pay 45.00 for the repair.
I wouldn’t subscribe to the service.
