A week ago I was walking through my living room while my wife was taking a shower and I heard a ticking sound coming from the ceiling. Upon closer inspection I discovered that my shower drain’s been leaking for a while. I fixed the leak (I hope) but now I have two smallish holes in my ceiling. This is where the “non woodworking” part comes in, and I’m hoping any of you with some experience can help me. The ceiling is sheetrock, which I’ve worked with a lot before, so I know how to patch the holes, the problem is that the ceiling has a “popcorn” textured finish on it. My question is, how can I duplicate the texture on the small area’s I have to patch?

I have used the spray cans of texure stuff from both the big box store and it does work well. BUT be careful to have a everything covered and wear a face sheild or goggles. The spray sometimes comes out really fast and strong! The two products that I use are Homax Acoustic Texture and Homax Acoustic Patch. Others I have used woked well also… After the texture coat is dry it is sometimes a good idea to spray the new area with a sealer like clear acrylic spray paint if you are going to paint your sealing after the fix. (The spray paint will hold the color coat of paint to the popcorn without it pulling off.)
