Topic tags/keywords: figure maple

Picked up this piece of wood for a project I’m working on. I thought it was very illustrative of what figure really is. Enjoy. What you are seeing is the live edge of the wood with the bark removed. It is easy to see how the quilting appears as “bubbles” in the growth of the wood. Enjoy

It’s the under side of the JB lid, the skull is hidden behind a mirror. The top side of the mirror frame is held in by the magnets above the skull. I made a mitered lap joint to hide the fact it was removable, pretty proud of the joint virtually invisible when in place. I used torsion hinges to prevent the lid from slamming and wrecking the mirror.

OMG! Drooool. I’ve been like a kid waiting for Christmas and have made myself finish the rest of the project before starting on the doors of the cabinet. But I had to plane the maple down to see if I need more.

Behold!

Looks like an ocean. How can you actually cut it??

-- No, I don't want to buy the pink hammer.
