Lid close - drawer lock mechanism

I’m planning a footstool with a top that flips up to reveal tool storage underneath. Below that I’d like a single drawer that can only be opened when the lid is up. (I’ll make the lid lockable) Any suggestions as to how to do this? I’ve got a few ideas, but I’m hoping for more. Tia.

Some sort of a pin attached to the lid that pulls out of the drawer side when the lid is lifted?
A friend and I worked on his roll top desk. The drawers would only open with the roll top open. The latch was a mechanism that was attached th the back of the drawers. My small Craftsman tool box drawers only open when the lid is up…
