Hey guys/gals I am new to the site and almost as new to woodworking but i have the interest in learning. after looking at some of your beautiful gift boxes you have made and shared on here i am interested in making one myself. i was lucky enough to be given several pieces of mahogany that are 2×6 in 4 foot lengths and was also able to obtain a really nice piece of 1×5 Birdseye maple in a 3 foot length my idea was to make a box for my future wife as a Christmas gift to store her jewelery.here is what i was thinking the top and sides made out of the maple framed by the mahogany for the front, top and sides and the back all mahogany if anyone could give me any pointers or maybe a way to make it nicer with what i have it would be great or if anyone has any plans of a box as i am going with total judgment as to the design, i have no pattern and finishing suggestions would also be welcome. thanks for all you help and i just want to say you guys have a great community here keep up the good work.

Here’s a nice plan for a jewlery box: http://www.jeffgreefwoodworking.com/pnc/Boxes/FingJewel/index.html

And you should be able to do everything with the tools you have access to.
