An interesting series of block planes in which the base, and often other components are made of steel – formed using a combination of stamping press and punch press. They were touted as “indestructible”.

The stanley 4S is made from stamped steel and is a smoother.

Thanks for this informative link. I have started in the last few years to respect, restore and use these old planes.
(And to think I’m a power tool junkie)
