Wood Magazine and American Craftsman Workshop

Blog entry by Todd A. Clippinger posted 140 days ago 1152 reads 4 times favorited 60 comments Add to Favorites Watch

The latest issue of Wood Magazine (Issue 192-Sept 2009) is just hitting the mailboxes and will soon be at the bookstores and magazine racks.

On the cover is Norm Abram, but on page three, listed in the index is a mention for my joint testing video! They also printed an image captured from the video.

I am honored and excited about being chosen for a mention in Wood Magazine.

I plan on doing more videos in the future, but they take a lot of work and I have my own business to run so please be patient. But I promise to share more from the American Craftsman Workshop!

The mention in Wood Magazine is exciting, but remember, I posted them at LJ first!

I think sharing a publication with Norm is a great honor!

I think the article is interesting and I love the Limbert style table that is the featured project.

Topamax – Now you have me second guessing myself.

I know that use 150 grit, and it doesn’t take long with that, then I finish up with 180 or take it to 220 depending on what the situation calls for.

Next time I will have to start with 180 to see if I can spend that much less time sanding.

I was thinking after I posted that question, maybe your “rough” scraping isn’t as smooth as I expect, but the shavings look very fine.

Topamax – The best I can remember is that I started with 180 on a project after the card scraper and it needed just a bit more than that, so I dropped back to 150. I can’t remember which project it was but I am sure it was a hard wood. After that I just always started with 150.

The card scraper does pull off some fine shavings and does a nice job with the surface, but it does need finished off with the R.O. sander before staining or finishing.

The goal is to do an exceptional job with as little work as necessary. That is to say, only do what is necessary and no more than that.
