Sorry I haven’t been around much, still getting my butt kicked with work.

But I had to stop by and give a shout out to fellow LumberJock member Charles Maxwell.

I just got Fine Woodworking Issue #215 in the mail and like always I turned straight to the gallery section before I even get back into the house.

On page 76 I found one of Charles’ masterpiece clocks on display. I recognized it before even reading his name. Very Cool!

I always get that “Hey I know that guy!” feeling every time an LJ member gets published.

Charles’ work is absolutely amazing so be sure to check it his Projects to see his wooden mechanical marvels.
The M5 Clock is the one published in Fine Woodworking

Congrats to Charles!

Tod, Thanks for your kind email. Just goes to show, if your throw a few pieces of wood at the wall enough times, somebody notices! Max

Being in the “boonies” I have not received my new FWW issue yet….but Grats and Kudos to Max for a great job and beautiful projects.

Sorry we haven’t seen you on as much Todd….but it is always nice to be able to pay those bills….work is like that….

We have been fighting the good fight these days…very tough getting work in this economy…and very competitive….I’ve seen too many jobs going for less then costs….This tells me there is going to be a lot of lawsuits from claims and change order fights….When the economy is like this…lots of folks underbid then try to make up in changes – they will typically end up in a dogfight…the customers hold firmer then usual…and wallah another lawsuit is born…see it alot in bad times. We don’t play that game….we just end up fixing the lousy job those other guys do. We get alot of work from this…and lots of referral work…so we just have to wait out the bad times and let the fools sort themselves out.

Reggie, I can tell you know the business. Sounds like you have even seen what has been going on in my area, but really it is the same game everywhere isn’t it?

I am finally glad to be pulling out of a couple tough years. Very busy and very thankful.

I know the feeling of “hey I know that guy” – every time I see a LumberJock in a magazine or some recognition. It’s awesome.

And – Charles – congrats!!!

Thanks for telling us about this, Todd, and congratulations Charles; you should be proud of your achievements.

Hi Todd;

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. And congratulations to Charles. His work is amazing.

You and Reggie pretty much hit it with the construction work situation. Same thing here in New Jersey.

Less than the normal amount of work being done, with triple the amount of “contractors” bidding on it.

Glad to hear you’re staying busy.

Lee
