American Craftsman and the DIY Studfinder

Throwin’ My Hat in the Ring…

Hey everybody, I just entered the DIY Network Studfinder contest.

I hope that everyone will check out my video, give me a vote and post a comment. I will need all that I can get!

I have seen some of the personalities that submitted and I was motivated to throw my hat in the ring on this one. It can’t hurt!

Just think – I could be saying “Share the Love~Share the Knowledge” on the DIY Network!

The video is bare-bones because the rules state that no music or graphics were to be used – yes I know others did but I tend to read the directions and follow them;)

The video resolution is horrible after getting converted to fit their format. I am not sure how others got such great resolution.

http://www.diynetwork.com/stud-finder-2009-be-the-next-do-it-yourself-star-gallery/package/index.html?sortby=recent&pn=4&pageref=Photo_Video-1033169&vw_arrange_order=DESC&vw_sort_order=MOST_RECENT

To vote: find the stars at the lower right corner of the video screen and click on “Rate This”
The red arrow points this out in the screen shot.

Very well done and I wish you all the luck in the world. However, I think you could have added a couple of poses, like you did for the LJ Calendar a while back. You know, a little something for the ladies. ;-)

Junji – Your comment was a tremendous compliment and I thank you very much. It made me realize how important it is to be articulate, especially for others that may have more difficulty understanding English or possibly have difficulty hearing. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

it leads to the same link above (http://lumberjocks.com/toddc), not to the blog.

Great video Todd…I rated 5 stars…but when I tried to add a comment it did not seem to work…

Here is what I wrote (I copied since it looked like the window was having probs):

“Great video Todd! Its amazing—-how many times over the last two years have I “needled” or “egged” you on about having the “Todd Clippinger School of Woodworking”—-I think it is because you clearly have talent as a craftperson—-and a caring heart, HUGE PERSONALITY…and wonderful communication skills to bring it all together…as a school teacher and woodworker I think you have all the right qualities to be a wonderful host on DIY!!!

I hope the judges agree—-trust me judges—-I have gotten to know Todd and his work over a two year period—-and we have never met—-but he is the real deal!

Matt “Napaman” Denney”

LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN OR CANT SEE THAT…I could not get it to work…but maybe it went through…

Hi Todd,
I just voted, & made a comment. It took me quite awhile to figure out how, it’s not as easy as commenting on LJs.
Yesterday, I couldn’t even find you.

If all of us LJs got on the ball, we could put you on the top of the heap.

Todd,
I went back to the DIY webpage and looked thru the Gallery for everyone submitting their videos and you have two entries. Both links were on the same page, one like had 141 ratings and the second link had 10 ratings. Both videos were the same, so every LJ should go back and rate Todd again on the second link.

Good luck Todd, we are rooting for you!

Hey guys, there are 2 of us bidding for this. I also have one out there. Hopefully the judges will pick Todd as a finalist and then I can rely on the LJ’s for the vote to be the 5th. That would be a great show and get a lot of attention getting to LJ”s on the final show.

Official voting doesn’t begin until August 3rd through the 31st. They will notify the 4 finalists then put out there for the 5th one by vote

Sorry Todd, but you have a successful business. I have been living on a teacher’s salary for 11 years now. In all seriousness, good luck to you also.

Check out my blog for my video link, I don’t want to rain on Todd’s parade too much. Thanks guys.

3fingerpat – I posted twice because the first one did not work for a while. You may notice other entries with no video and I thought that I had come to the same demise with my entry.

I re-formated the video and posted again. It loaded smoother and worked right away. But when I went back to the first post, it was operating too.

My link is to the second entry that seemed to work more reliably, so that is where I am directing all of the traffic. I also posted a comment on the first one somewhat explaining this so they knew I was aware. I did not want them to think that I posted twice to somehow get an edge.

Tooldad – It really is all out of our hands. The judges will make their decision without consideration to our relationship and so I do not consider us in competition. The chips will fall where they may.

I wish you the best of luck, but I hope that I win;)

The voting on the last semi-finalist is limited to three guys and I am not one of them.

I did not have high hopes for this but 2 things to remember here:

1.) You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.
2.) You never know what connections could be made with people seeing the video and clicking on my website link.

It is hard to say how much exposure I got out of the entry and who saw it, but I know for sure that my website counter showed activity after posting the entry.
