Hanging Tool Cabinet

Ok, so I know one needs to build a workbench an a hanging tool cabinet to get one’s woodworking geek card. Check and check! Who sends me the card now?

Seriously, like many, I had hand tools stuffed here and there and needed some organization. This cabinet has proved to provide a good way to store hand tools. The center section opens for more hanging storage, which is empty until I go shopping for more tools.

Traditional Hall Table

Recently, I was asked to build a small hall table. This is the result. The budget was limited so I used Alder and toned it heavily to match other nearby tables.

There were a couple learning experiences in this project. First, I created custom cutters for my shaper for this project. Second, I turned the fairly large columns on a fairly small lathe. There’s now a larger 18×47 lathe in my shop. :-)

Workbench

After years of making do with various quickly-constructed workbenches and/or sawhorses I decided to take the time to build a good quality workbench. Glad I did as it makes those common woodworking tasks easier and safer.

Top is Maple with a side vise and end vise providing the needed holding power. Hold downs and bench dogs work nicely with these vises. Cabinet is Poplar.

The design follows several plans/ideas from Fine Woodworking. I wanted drawers so pulled ideas from plans that included them, but needed to keep this bench fairly small since my shop space is limited. Lots of great plans and ideas out there!
