Turning on the lathe is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable parts of woodworking. Every time I turn I ask myself, “Why don’t I do this more often??” I still don’t have an answer to that. But recently, I had the opportunity to turn a cool item for a charity event. My friend Shawn was creating unique auctions for a Muscular Dystrophy charity event. One of those auctions was for a vampire slaying kit, which of course required a stake. Unconventional? Made of wood? For charity? I’m in!!!

While making the video, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to review some turning basics as well as introduce you to the tools I use most frequently. These include the Ellsworth gouge, the roughing gouge, the skew chisel, and the diamond parting tool. If you are interesting in picking any of these up, I included affiliate links below for these tools. Remember, buying through us helps support the show.

And keep in mind, although I am turning a vampire stake here, the tools and techniques are the same that you would use to turn a spindle in a regular woodworking project.

Another great one! I always look fwd to them. Keep it going. I stumbled across a new design on the cutting boards you shared with us. I’ll send you pic once I run them through the planer. Thx.

You could sell about a hundred of these to the good folks of Bon Temps, La. (if you could find 100 “good folks” there). Enjoy the heck out of your vids, Marc, it’s only a matter of time before you’re on TV.

nice work Marc, as always!

BTW, I was in Philly over the weekend flipping through the channels (non-cable, just over the air) and stumbled across you. Unfortunately I couldn’t watch since I was on the hunt for cartoons. No idea what channel it was but I’m guessing maybe PBS? Are you on in any other places?

Thanks for the video. I just purchased a lathe last week and look forward to using it hopefully by the end of the month. This video helped thanks.

Not sure about staking those Twilight vampires though, my wife would divorce me lol.

Nice stake!

I can’t get into the new vampire movies.

They didn’t use fancy stakes like this one. LOL

I grew up on Bela Lugosi movies, so I’m partial I guess.

Thanks guys!! The show is actually syndicated over 20-30 different public access markets. Its hard to say for sure which regions broadcast the show though because they all have access to the content if they want it. And not all of them let me know about it. So we are out there…... Just check your local listings.

Yeah I am not a fan of the Twilight series, but I have to say I am hooked on True Blood. Its more blood, guts and gore than love story. :)

If you want a show with blood guts and gore I recommend Sparticus on Starz. That show is excellent. Part 300, part Gladiator, part soft core porn (just like true blood).

You should raise the grain before final sanding using holy water. ;)

I think someone should sign you for a regular TV show Marc & maybe it would get aired in the UK we need some good quality telly should the Lumberjocks unite & sign a petition? (I think so) what does anyone else think?
Trevor
By the way can I get your autograph?.......( on this cheque for $10,000)

Wow, I really appreciate the vote of confidence. But as an international viewer, a show on US TV probably isn’t going to do you any favors. At least on the internet, you can see the videos day and date of release with no limitations.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever carried the New Yankee Workshop over there?

As for the autograph, only if I am signing the back of the check. ;)
