Hi Sawdust eaters,

Been a while since I added any clutter to this blog. I know there are folks out there who want to update their shop table. In my opinion the shop table is the #l item in any working shop. Why use a hurridly thrown together shop table and then use quality tools in your shop?

I have updated my 54×60 (old school shop table top) and modernized it. I made a neat base using the 21st Century Shop Table idea for a shop table base. On the vice end I have the table stretchers even with the end of the bench. I drilled 3/4 inch holes to accomodate Gramercy Hold Fasts (4 of them). On the left side I installed a Hovarter Vice which is the Cadillac of vices. Len Hovarter has invented a vice which is the 1st of its kind. It has no screw. All vices for the last 600 years have had screws for operation . www.hovartercustomvise.com Check out Len’s website. If you phone Len, mention the Texas Cajun.

Len Hovarter has been most helpful to me in the correct instillation of my vice. It is expensive and surely would be only for the most experienced woodworker. The “screw in” and you are finished vices JUST DON’T GET IT for me. Also I drilled 20 3/4 inch holes in the top of my shop table for the Gramercy Hold Fasts. The sorry cast iron holddowns also didn’t make it to my shop. If you use the Gramercy, you will be so glad you did.

Later,
