I would like to thank Mtnwild for the inspiration on this one.
A rather simple scroll work/ intarsia piece. It seems these simple southwest design pieces sell well.

A total restoration on an old house for our friends here in SW Texas. We have a long way to go. I finished up my deer head gingerbread supports for the back porch and couldn’t wait to show them off. They are made from 4/4 rough sawn cedar to match the trim and beams. The pattern is by John Nelson I got from my book the best of Scroll Saw Wildlife projects. The siding is an 8 inch D-log pine. Progress is slow, it’s 110 degrees in the shade here!!!!! Can’t wait to finish up and head for the Rockies to cool off . At least till the snow flies then back here to Tx.

Mike has my wooden store bought silverware strainer on his bench and uses it to hold his pencils and such. I wanted one too! So what does a woodworking gal do? Make one, a better one, a Pretty one! Then I made another one! And so the addiction begins.
pic #5 is the store bought that inspired me.

A 12’ x 24’ addition and bar.The Homeowners tell us what they want , I draw it up and Mike builds it with the assitance of the crew (ME) and I do all the painting, staining and poly. We ( MichaelA and myself) built this on an existing slab off the side of the garage. It did pose a bit of a challenge to Mike because the slab had a slope in 2 directions But is nothing for a stepper. It was hard to get good pics. The owners were decorating before I finished painting the outside! The view is awesome being lakefront. We also made the flower box under the window. This is what we do when we’re not carving and doing intarsia, now I can buy more wood! Mike also aquired some awesome mesquite stumps from the owner for carving.

He has 3 teams of mules. He saw my clyde head at a local benefit for the Ronald McDonald house at our booth and wanted to know if I would make him a mule. I modified the Kathy Wise pattern I have and here’s how it turned out. I used mahogany, walnut, ebony and basswood and painted the 18K goldleaf. We had some T1-11 scrap left over from a job and that is the background, pine for the frame and of course walnut Texas stars on the corners.

I’ve had a love for horses from the day Mom and Dad got us our first pony. I was 5. I had a neighbor lady who had a print of The Pharohs’ Horses hanging in her dinning room. 3 white Arabians neck and neck, wild eyed and manes flying !After doing Intarsia for several months, I wanted to do my own patterns. For some reason this painting came to mind after some 30 + odd years. In researching the history of it this is what I found. Painted bt John Herring Jr. in the late 1800’s. It is thought to depict the parting of the Red Sea by Moses. When the Pharohs men and horses tried to follow, the sea closed in upon them and they sank to the bottom like lead.
The beauty, strength and grace of a horse as they move has always stirred something in me. The smooth fluid motion ,manes and tails flying ….. Even more impressive is when your riding bareback and you can feel the sheer strength and move with them like one entity racing across a field of clover. Can’t you feel it too?

this is made with bloodwood, cocobolo, walnut, ash, select pine, cedar and blackwood. The frame is select pine with cocobolo and blackwood inlayed to give it a southwestern rustic look.
