Thinking of using a dado chipper for spline slots. - 19 replies
As the title says, I’m thinking of using a dado chipper to cut the spline slots in a mitered box I’m making. Ole butter fingers here dropped the only blade I had that made flat bottom slots. I broke off six of the teeth. Is it possible to use one of the chippers from my dado set to make the slots for the miter splines? Am I asking f...

Where do you buy your jointer knives? - 13 replies
I have a Delta JT160 benchtop jointer. It’s not the greatest tool in the world, but for my smaller jointing projects it’s OK. The factory blades suck though. They wear very quickly and have to be reset constantly. Does anyone have a lead on some aftermarket knives that would replace the factory ones. All I seem to be able to find ...

LJ's in the S. Jersey area - Ridgid TS3612 on CList - 13 replies
This guy’s had this ad up a few weeks now. Looks like it’s in very good condition. A good price with all the extras that are included. No, I don’t know the seller, just thought I’d put it out there for any local Jocks. http://southjersey.craigslist.org/tls/4075625706.html TABLE SAW, 10” CAST IRON W/DUST COLLEC...

Where to get sanding belts for Atlas sander? - 9 replies
As the title asks, where can I get sanding belts for a vintage Atlas sander from around 1950? I’m looking to purchase this sander next week but I’m hesitant because of the non-standard belt size (4×37-3/4). So far the only resource I’ve found is http://www.customsandingbelts.com/ . The sander is in perfect condition wit...

I found this band saw on Craig’s List today. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Anyone know much about it and is it worth what the seller’s asking? Only reason I’ld want it is that my grandfather had one just like it back in the early 60’s. That and I’m looking for a small second band saw. The seller’s as...

How can you cut rectangles in glass? - 14 replies
I’ld like to make a frame-in-frame picture collage with the two frames seperated by a couple inches of unbroken glass or mirror (8×10 center, surrounded by glass/mirror, surrounded by 4×6 multiples). This requires cutting a rectangular hole in the center of the glass to inset the inner frame. How can I cut the center opening i...

What Harbor Freight tools would you buy? - 58 replies
I’m already planning on how to spend my tax return (after catching up on bills) and would like to stretch it as far as possible. HF has the best prices by far but some really questionable quality. I know their dust collection is supposed to be a great bargain and some of the hand tools are decent for the money. What else do you consider...

Is Danish oil the right finish for my project? - 3 replies
Hi All, I’m making a slit/tongue drum ala Stevinmarin for a Christmas gift. For the sides I used some nicely grained Maple with tigering that I happened to find in the big orange box store. The top is some reclaimed 100 year old Honduran mahogany. I’ld like to use Danish oil (Watco) that I have for the sides to highlight the gr...
