So my plan for vacation this week was to finish up a project I started a couple of months ago. My goal was to make a rolling cabinet for my little Ryobi table saw. I kept having to pull it out from against the wall, plug it in, put it next to my...

I've been interested in woodworking for many years, especially after watching my first episode of "The New Yankee Workshop". I'm finally at a time in my life where actually doing woodworking is a possibility. In the summer of 2009, I was recovering from two herniated discs in my lower back. I found a Fine Woodworking magazine special on introduction to woodworking at the book store which included an instructional DVD. I had an old bench from when I was a teenager that had most of the material to actually make the bench described in the magazine so I went for it. I should have read more about finishing before I just dove in but I have a functional, but blotchy woodworking bench complete with a side vise, bench dog holes and a nice shelf. I've been listening to and reading as much on woodworking as I can since then. I have recovered and went back to work which has put projects I wanted to build to a creeping crawl. Just learned sketchup and designed a rolling cabinet for my Ryobi(I know) contractor saw, which is my next project. I would love to turn the hobby in to a business for something to do and earn money before and when I retire from my current day job. Let the adventures begin.

I’ve looked at books for new woodworkers that laid out several different projects to build various skill sets. I like the concept, but enjoy being creative when it comes to thinking about projects to build. My first project was a woodworki...
Quick, which is bigger, 5/16th or 11/32nd? Having trouble? Try this. Which one is bigger 10 or 12? Easy right? I’m all about easy and trying to remember how to convert fractions isn’t really something I want my brain working on w...
