beadboard paneling - 2 replies
Question; Is there a difference in the basic bead board paneling that is typically sold at Home depot, vs, more up scale building supply stores? The 4’x8’x 3/16” panels sold at HD seem to need a lot of sanding, minor repair, etc., before you can begin to finish. Not looking for specific wood types, basic pine is fine ( they wil...

new table saw - 6 replies
I’m finally gunna replace my 10” sears table saw. Looking for recommendations/ thoughts and opinions. Don’t really need a cabinet makers floor saw. Looking to stay under $1,500, unless there is a really good reason to go higher. Jet has a few in this range. What does anyone think of “saw-stop” technology? Thanks a h...

dust collection - 3 replies
Looking for any experiences that might help. I am looking at small portable dust collectors for my shop. The Fein ~$320 and the Festool ~$550 both look good, Festool is quite a bit more expensive for a comparable size. For me to get serious about reining in my dust issue, size, ease of use and versatility, are paramount. I am a hobbyist, so, a l...

bandsaw problem - 9 replies
I recently got an AMT 14” ~22 y.o. bandsaw. After many hours spent adjusting it, it seemed to run well, however I get this “serrated” effect. It is also strange that it is at a slight angle. It stumped the guys at my local Woodcraft store. Any thoughts? I am using a new 3/8 ” hook tooth. It does the same thing with any bl...

furniture repair - 2 replies
Thoughts on repairing antique furniture. Failed joints that have been very badly fixed several times in the past, meaning, layers of old wood glue on old dowels and on the split, or failed joint. Not looking for museum restoration, just a sound repair for functionality. My skills are intermediate, but long on patience! Thanks, Tacodan

Air filtration - 7 replies
Any thoughts, or recommendations on air filtration? My garage-shop is about 4,000 sq.ft. The only one I have looked at is the JDS Air-tech 2000 sold by woodcraft. I currently can not afford a real dust collection system, so I use a shop vac connected to whatever I’m using. Looking to get the really fine stuff that hands in the air. Thanks ...

router question - 5 replies

cypress wood finishes - 1 reply
I am currently building out a restaurant, and the owner wants the bar top to be cypress. I am having some 1×8’s milled T&G, the bar will be 3 of these boards wide ~21”. Any ideas about finishes? The owner wants to stain it. I was thinking about 2-part water-based poly [used on floors] for durability. does/can the grain need ...
