I ran into this while searching for some details on one of the saws I just acquired. It is a collection of tips that originated on the old tools email list more than 10 years ago. It is generally geared toward old hand tool enthusiasts, but much can be applied to modern tools as it deals more with people than with the actual tools.

The tips focus on a flea market setting but also apply to garage sales and estate sales. The people targeted include significant others and the people selling the stuff you want. It made me laugh and say “why didn’t I think of that” several times.

I’d like to post it here but due to ownership restrictions, I can only link to it.

Funny. I love it. I guess my wife has given up any hope that I will ever stop collecting tools. She now points them out to me. She loves flea markets too. That’s where she gets stuff for her art projects.

I had my wife read this. She is STILL laughing. I have been trying to get sympathy from her about my arm. I just finished sharpening planes and chisels. Some were a little too sharp I took some skin as well as hair off.
Both of us like auctions and flea sales. I do the money in different pocket thing all the time. She just grins when I am standing there dickerin !
She wants to know what SWMBO stands for ?

She Who Must Be Obeyed

My wife has not quite gotten to the point of supporting my errr.. habit yet. She won’t usually encourage me to go look or to buy, but she doesn’t scold me too bad when I come back with something.
