A veneering extravaganza!

This intricate project is a veneered, inlaid, banded, and beaded set consisting of a coffee table and two end tables. The visible woods are curly maple, boire, Peruvian walnut, anigre, figured anigre, and wenge. The secondary woods are mahogany and poplar. I finished the latest accessory for the Super Sled – the Tenon Jig. It’s pretty darn easy to build. Given the cost of commercial tenon jigs, you could easily make this one with the scrap plywood you have laying around. You've got to see this mirror finish on soft pine!!!

I was putting a finish on a headboard I was working on and just out of the blue I thought what if I rubbed some Salad bowl finish (bees wax and mineral oil) on some raw sanded pine and then let it dry and spray it with lacquer. My common sense told me the lacquer would fish eye or bead up and it was a dumb idea. I always use sanding sealer under Lacquer! Well I did it anyway just to see what would happen! I did all this by hand…..no power buffing at all. I sanded to 400, stained ...
