Small Case of Drawers

This is a small case of drawers I made from scraps of wood in my studio. The case is figured red birch, with claro walnut drawer fronts, maple blades and alder for the drawer interiors. I am happy with how this piece turned out. I made it partly as a show piece because it is small enough to take to a meeting with a client or gallery but it still can stand alone as its own piece of furniture. Hope you all like it.

Simple Cypress Box

This is just a simple box I am going to give as an example to a design firm. I think that cypress is one of the most underused woods in this country. It is beautiful, firm, and very easy to work with. This was also one of my first experiments with shellac. I usually go with an oil finish but since cypress is on the soft side I decided it needed something a little more protective.

This piece is an experiment in subtle curves. the only straight lines in the whole table are the long edges of the tabletop. I was lucky enough to find some nice figured walnut for this one. My only complaint is that I had a hell of a time getting any decent pictures.

The design of this piece is fairly simple to build. Hand cutting the dovetails though is a different matter.

This cabinet was of my own design and is built in walnut and alder with PO cedar for the drawer parts. The glass is also antique from an old window. I became increasingly aware as i made it that what looks interesting on paper is not necessarily convenient to build. (note the design of the doors) Anyways I just thought i would put it up to see what people think.

I made this a few years ago and ecently found the photo. I cut this piece from a dead plant while on a hike. I like the form of it. It took me nearly a month to sand the damn thing and now that i look at the photo i wish i could refinish it. Just curious to see what people think.
