Drum sander for small cars parts

When you make small parts as I am making now to complete a 600 mini cars order, you can’t sand every parts, so I design a home made drum sander.

I used a lathe that I have put at an angle, and with pulleys and an elastic band used as a strap, to reduce the speed, build a drum sander with a empty coffee jar hooked up to the upper pulley, to load the parts in and then put the cover on and started the lathe. The tumbling effect inside and parts rubbing together does sand the parts and after a few minutes inside, the parts are cleaned.

This can be use for any small parts that you have a big quantity of, and you want to sand.

This is a basic tool, but very useful!

Here are some new wheels that will give more life to my future models.

The truck wheels are made of walnut and padauk, they are 2 3/4” diam. I could have use any other wood color, these are bud type wheels with 5 holes in the hub. I can make any type of wheel hub to fit my model.

The car wheels are the spoke type, they are 2 3/4” diam. that will fit almost any patterns on the market. They could be made in other diam. My future models will be lot more realist. I use walnut for the rim, but again any other wood color could have been chosen.

These tractor wheels are made from Toys & Joys patterns. They are fun to build.

More models to come!

Made of oak, it is 32” wide with a 12” radius top. There is 6 drawers in the back and like old curios, there is a special procedure so you can open them, they all lock with the same key. The bottom part has a sliding tray so you can reach items in the front and there is 2 plexiglass doors with lock in the back.
