Prelimenary review for Buck Bros. Set of 5 Crank Neck Paring Chisels

A few weeks ago I took a class with Chris Gochnour who often writes tool reviews for Fine Woodworking Magazine. He had just bought a set of Buck Bros Crank Neck Paring Chisels and a set of straight paring chisels. Like, I am sure most of you, I know this brand of chisels as a cheap brand from the Home Depot. These chisels are different , they are made by the “real” company which makes chisels and cutting tools since 1864 (http://www.craftsmanstudio.com/html_p/BuckBrosChisels.htm)....

How to make money selling your work as a Artisan

How to make money selling your work as a Artisan

Want to review a book that I just purchased a few days ago. It’s called “Artisans & Money”, written by Joe Rollins. Some of you may remember me posting a review of his lathe cutting tools and as of today I have had 1146 views with 7 comments. Not sure if any of you ordered any of these tools but if you are starting out in wood turning or even if you have been turning for years I still feel this is one of the best investments you can make. Why? Great product at a lower price than other see...

After repeated problems with the remote control on my dust collector, I hit on a less costly and (so far) more reliable solution. One day I was walking through the electrical department at the local big box and saw these … they sell for $11.99. For that, you get the wireless switch that plugs into the service outlet like a wall wart and a remote control that can manage three of these devices. I bought 3 of them … use one on my air cleaner, one on my dust collector, and one o...

I’m going to keep this VERY simple … I strayed from this product today and regret it already. Ignore all other construction adhesives. PL Ploy is the one to use. It cures in 24 hours as long as the temperature and humidity are within a normal day. It’s much faster in the summer with high humidity and it’s slower in the winter when its cold and dry. This can be adjusted by adding some moisture to the mix (spray a wood surface lightly … before applying) We...

Move over Diablo, Irwin got something right for once

Move over Diablo, Irwin got something right for once

Yesterday I found myself in Lowes. Rumor was they were offloading all of their CMT stuff cheap. While browsing around I stumbled upon the Marples blades. Disclaimer I have a saw blade addiction. If I see something new or exciting, I have to buy it. It’s a problem and I need help! Also I am not a fan of Irwin at all. Their marathon blades are pure garbage, and the “classic” blades are a downgrade from whatever came on your saw – as hard to beleive as that is. I did some...
