I wanted to start a blog series on one of my hobbies that coincides with woodworking. I enjoy going to yard sales/auctions/flea markets and buying woodworking tools. I can usually get a good deal. I thought I would start posting my finds and see what everyone else thinks.
First up is a Workmate Vice I picked up at a yard sale this weekend. It came in the original box and was in mint shape just look for yourself. (Click on the pics to see them in full.)
I know its not a woodworking tool, but it still has its uses in a woodworking shop.
And yes the $2 on the box is what I paid for it. I thought it was a good deal. Let me know what everyone else thinks.

SCORE!!!!!
Did you wear a mask when you picked it up? :^)
On this same subject- I am completely ignorant about flea markets, yard sales etc- really- I’ve never been to one. But a friend of mine has a birthday coming up soon and I know he would like to have a draw knife or spoke shave. Where do you start looking for something like this. He will actually use the tools. I could buy him a new one but he would appreciate an older one more. Have any advice as to where to start looking?
Thanks
Lew

cool… I love the yard sales and flea markets too, but don’t tend to have time on the weekends to check ‘em out (two kids under the age of 4… you try stopping “real quick” just to check out a yard sale!), so I’ve got my mom scanning for me. If she sees something she thinks I might like, she snaps a pic with her cell phone and MMS messages me… I can respond right away, and it’s the best system.
I’d love to see more of these, keep ‘em coming!
