Scenic Woodturning Courses

Every year my local tool dealer puts on an 11 day cruise here in Norway which caters to woodturners. The cruise includes free turning courses held by internationally known American, English, Norwegian and other woodturners. A lot of tools including bandsaws, sanders, turning tools, etc. are taken with. The cruise starts in Stavanger and sails to Honningvåg/Norkapp (land of the midnight sun). It’s probably pretty expensive, but surely a lot of fun for those who can afford it. A great way to see Norway without abandoning your woodturning. A lot of port calls along the way where locals can come aboard and buy tools.

I haven’t been on any of these cruises, but they are fully booked every year, so I think they are quite popular. I thought it would be worth mentioning in case any LJ members were interested in taking a cruise like this. Here’s a pic of the boat.

Wow Mike. That’s amazing. I hope that ship stays study in the water.

I have considered taking this cruise actually, but it just couldn’t work for me this year. Maybe next year. I think it sounds like a great time and interesting way to see Norway.

I won’t tell Sherie about that one. She will try to put together an Iceland-Norwegian thing. Icelandic Air travels out of Anchorage in the summer with direct flights to Iceland…............

I’ve tried to get my wife interested in it, but no luck so far. I guess her worst nightmare is spending time with a lot of woodworkers based on her experience with me I guess.

I don’t think Sherie would mind the cruise, if it were upscale enough. And if there were a fair number of women aboard. But it is not on our agenda right now. But that doesn’t mean it might not be in the future.

I will, but she got tired of traveling to shooting matches ;-) Even when they were just a few days out of 6 weeks to 2 months trip? Maybe I should just surprise here with the WW part ;-))
