Catch is, I need 5/4 cedar boards. I’m in the Baltimore, MD area. Our big boxes don’t carry it and I’ve called a couple lumber yards and they don’t ... |

Value of Original Unused Marple Chisels Set of 4 (Sheffield iron) - 10 replies From the way I understand it, Marples blue handle chisels made in Sheffield are a good starter chisel. Then Irwin bought Marples and kept making them in Sheffield for a while and those are good too. Then Irwin started making them in China and those are not so good. I’m trying to get a set of 4, new, Marples from Sheffield with blue ha... |

pressure txt 5/4 x 4? - 3 replies So we bought a used playset that has some rot. The existing boards are pressure treated 5/4×4. I went to the big box stores in our area…the all carry pressure treated 5/4×6, but no 5/4×4. Now, I can buy the 6 in wide boards and cut them down to 4 in wide ones (and route the cut edges to round them)....but that adds quit... |

Tool Gloat (and sliding toward apparent galootism) - 1 reply Had my first taste of galootism. I was searching for some used hand planes in my area…and hit on a craigslist post of a guy with 350 hand planes in his basement he’s looking to unload. I ended up in his basement this Saturday and did some picking. When I showed up with my steel wool and metal straight edge, he asked if I’d a... |

cutting lap joints in 2X4s...a lot of them - 7 replies I’ve finally gotten around to putting up an easy lumber rack (as opposed to my overloaded saw horses). I’m attaching three 2X4s stretching from the joists in my basement to the floor and spaced out to handle 8 foot lumber. I’m attaching to those three levels of “shelve” pieces (perpendicular 14” 2×4 pie... |
