« Part 1: CNC router plans and back story Part 2 of CNC router build series Part 3: Electronic Package going together lickity split... »

Fabricated the motor mounts and bored out the motor shaft coupler to fit the metric ball screw shaft….

The base has been mostly done for a while now…. but I couldn’t detail how we would mount the bearing blocks for the long axis ball screw until I had them in my hands and could verify the geometry… so we banged those out. Here’s the base upside down on the bench…

Mechanically… things are wrapping up… I’m just having a hard time deciding on whether to fab a deck out of MDF and T-track…. or keep trying to find a source for that wide T-track extrusion that Lego blocks together into big panels.

I can already see some things that I wish I had done differently. This design was originally driven by my personal financial limitations (can’t spend it if you don’t have it). Now that I’m actually building it for the company, I wish I hadn’t of cheeped out in some areas.
