I am retired from Bell where I was a systems analyst. I worked on network design and operations. Now, on most days you will find me in the workshop. I do a wide variety of wood work but I spend most of my time wood turning. I make salad bowls and artsy/decor pieces for a local gallery that sells my work. I have also created a line of cremation urns for a local crematorium.
I have had a love affair with wood since I was a youngster playing in my grandfather’s work shop where he repaired antique furniture. The earliest wood turning experience that I can remember is when I may have been seven or eight years old. I was standing on a wooden pop crate in front of my grandfather’s lathe. My grandfather was standing directly behind me, his arms wrapped around me from each side; with his hands on my hands he was teaching me how to use the various turning tools. In the days that followed, I abused many pieces of wood down to toothpicks; much to my grandfather’s amusement.
I am also a purveyor of wood on eBay. It is mostly burled and figured woods for the hobbyist and wood turner. I sell specialty stock for various craft persons including professional knife makers, gunsmiths, auto restoration, pen turners…. etc. You can find me on eBay as ‘thewoodguy1’
