Table saw upgrade Ridgid 3650 outfeed table and dust collection - 3 replies

I have a garage shop that I have to share with the cars. All my tools need to be mobile and I wanted an outfeed table that was part of my mobile table saw. This isn’t totally finished as it needs a hinged extension but even the extra few inches that it is right now is incredibly helpful and the safety factor has risen tremendously becaus...

Photo skills - 12 replies

Photography is not a woodworking skill but in the year 2010 its just about as important as sharpening a chisel. Lets start a thread with links to the best photographed projects on lumberjocks. Then from there we can all go and bug the crap out of those woodworkers to hold out hands during our photo efforts.

Where is that jig I saw darn it? - 4 replies

This past week or so I saw, here on lumberjocks, pics that someone had posted of a splined miter jig. I liked it a lot and should have marked it as a favorite but I didn’t and now I can’t find it. It might not have been labeled as a jig. He might of just been using the jig in a photo of a project he was working on. It didn’...

TSDC 2010 contest? Whos in? - 2 replies

The Sawdust Chronicles has launched its 3rd build challenge. Many prizes and relatively few competitors. I’m in although I’m afraid I may not finish my project in time. The simple project that I’m going to enter will be by far the most advanced thing that I have ever designed/built (advanced for me). There is still time to ...

ARRGGG is so FREAKING HOT IN THE GARAGE! - 38 replies

My woodworking addiction only takes place in the garage. Weather in Missouri is rougher than you might think. Hey its in the middle of the country it should not be to hot and not to cold right? CRAP its hot. We get triple digit heat in the summer and minus double digits in the winter and humidity so thick you can bathe in it. My working tim...

Can anyone tell me anything about this Performax 24" Sander? - 15 replies

I’m gonna meet the owner of this tool tonight. I think the price is good but I can’t find ANYTHING about this unit online. From the stand it appears to be very old. The closest unit that Jet has to this is a unit with two vertical mounting posts. You can see that this unit only mounts on one side. What do you know about this t...

I went by Rockler on the way home yesterday. I was looking for some aniline dye. When they didn’t have any a Rockler employee told me what they carried worked very good and aniline dye is illegal anyway. I asked Blake where he got his and he pointed me to woodworkers supply. Looks like its no problem to buy this stuff. Neither Rockler...

Finish for a chisel stand? - 1 reply

My wife bought me a SWEET set of chisels. I finallygot around to making a stand and I’m concerned about the finish I put on it. I usually just go with tongue oil becuase it looks good and I can’t screw it up. Will that tongue oil tarnish my chisels? What would you put on this type of project?

Should a new set of jointer knives need to be sharpened? - 8 replies

I just received a replacement set of knives for my Ridgid 6” jointer. I got these from Amazon. The were sold as Freud and labeled as such so I expect them to be a good set. When I opened them I was very carefully expecting them to be razor sharp. I was surprised to find that they weren’t really that sharp at all. They appear to ...
