Thank y’all for the hearty welcomes. I hope to learn much and maybe even contribute at least a little. I’m not a TOTAL beginner, by some standards, but, well, by most standards: yeah, I don’t know much more than a sliver beyond zilch.

Presently I’ve set up shop in an ever-expanding (stealthily expanding) corner of the humid, dingy basement of my 80+ year-old house.

Power tools: cheap Ryobi 10” table saw, B&D circular saw (the one with the laser…ooooh), corded Dewalt hammer/standard drill, Dewalt 14.4 cordless drill, some random 9.6v cordless drill, 3 or 4 Dremels ranging from cordless to multi-speed, a B&D pivoting jig saw, a Dremel palm sander, etc.

Hand tools: A couple of back-saws (forget the teeth configurations), a coping saw with a few blades, a 3/4” chisel and a 1/2” chisel, various wet and oil stones, hammers, a rubber mallet, ratchet sets, etc., etc.

No dust-collection system except a poor little overworked 3 or 4 horsepower ShopVac that my kids have affectionately named “R2D2.” But I do have a network of fans pushing all the ambient carcinogens into a vertically-hanging 20×20 box fan affixed with a HEPA filter.

Total hobbyist. Quickly becoming an, erm, obsessed hobbyist. The first jig for my table saw was a pretty kick-ass cutoff sled, if I do say so myself. Holds 20”-wide stock, and works pretty good so far.

Again, thanks for the great welcomes, and I hope I can participate in some sort of contributory fashion.

Yeah, I really like the vibe of this place. If I could stop building boxes and jigs long enough, I might actually post something! :-)
