After showing some of my boxes in “Projects”. I have received some inquiries about the installation of the barrel hinges I sometimes use. I hope this helps for some of you. I know it will be overkill for many of you, so just use what you wish.

This shows the medallion getting glued in place. I decided to do a loose fit between the medallion and lid on this one due to the fact that I just couldn keep the bloodwood from chipping out even with a new cutter and climb cutting. I have done this before, filling the gap with black epoxy for a shadow line effect. I am using spacers to even out the gap.

Hello all. Well I seem to have whet the appetite a bit so here goes for a ‘novel’ technique for making mitred boxes. Its a bit like making a box out of paper, like they showed you at school, using a ‘net’. Only in 3D, with wood and a tablesaw (not sissors).

That’s just the Foo Fighter’s track playing endlessly in my head ATM. Good enough title though. Anyways up when the triangles are glued up and re-arranged you get this.
When you re-saw them you get this

Hello here this is my second attempt to blog shell boxes. The last one ended up in the wall art ‘Inverted World’. Well this one is a little less spectacular but is based along the same theme of curves. This time a curved pattern
but it will have stringing introduced between the colour changes as will become apparent as the blog progresses. The main woods are American Black Walnut and Sycamore with Yew stringing. I will be book-matching woods where necessary.

Since the original EZ mitre blog there have been variations added. To formalise the adding of new and/or additional methods to the technique I will add updates for now and re-release the whole thing if I ever get time.
